1、Companionship of Books - 以书为伴
1、 A man may usually be known by the books he reads as well as by the company he keeps; for there is a companionship of books as well as of men; and one should always live in the best company, whether it be of books or of men.
2、A good book may be among the best of friends. It is the same today that it always was, and it will never change. It is the most patient and cheerful of companions. It does not turn its back upon us in times of adversity or distress. It always receives us with the same kindness; amusing and instructing us in youth, and comforting and consoling us in age.
3、Men often discover their affinity to each other by the mutual love they have for a book just as two persons sometimes discover a friend by the admiration which both entertain for a third. There is an old proverb, ‘Love me, love my dog.” But there is more wisdom in this:” Love me, love my book.” The book is a truer and higher bond of union. Men can think, feel, and sympathize with each other through their favorite author. They live in him together, and he in them.
4、 A good book is often the best urn of a life enshrining the best that life could think out; for the world of a man’s life is, for the most part, but the world of his thoughts. Thus the best books are treasuries of good words, the golden thoughts, which, remembered and cherished, become our constant companions and comforters.
5、 Books possess an essence of immortality. They are by far the most lasting products of human effort. Temples and statues decay, but books survive. Time is of no account with great thoughts, which are as fresh today as when they first passed through their author’s minds, ages ago. What was then said and thought still speaks to us as vividly as ever from the printed page. The only effect of time have been to sift out the bad products; for nothing in literature can long survive e but what is really good.
6、Books introduce us into the best society; they bring us into the presence of the greatest minds that have ever lived. We hear what they said and did; we see the as if they were really alive; we sympathize with them, enjoy with them, grieve with them; their experience becomes ours, and we feel as if we were in a measure actors with them in the scenes which they describe.
7、The great and good do not die, even in this world. Embalmed in books, their spirits walk abroad. The book is a living voice. It is an intellect to which on still listens.
2、Just for Today - 就为了今天
1、 Just for today I will try to live through this day only and not tackle my whole life problem at once. I can do something for twelve hours that would appall me if I had to keep it up for a lifetime.
2、Just for today I will be happy. This assumes to be true what Abraham Lincoln said, that "Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be."
3、Just for today I will adjust myself to what is, and not try to adjust everything to my own desires. I will take my "luck" as it comes.
4、Just for today I will try to strengthen my mind. I will study. I will learn something useful. I will not be a mental loafer. I will read something that requires effort, thought and concentration.
5、Just for today I will exercise my soul in three ways. I will do somebody a good turn and not get found out: If anybody knows of it, it will not count. I will do at least two things I don‘t want to do—just for exercise. I will not show anyone that my feelings are hurt: they may be hurt, but today I will not show it.
6、Just for today I will be agreeable. I will look as well as I can, dress becomingly, talk low, act courteously, criticize not one bit, and try not to improve or regulate anybody but myself.
7、Just for today I will have a program, I may not follow it exactly, but I will have it. I will save myself from two pests: hurry and indecision.
8、Just for today I will have a quiet half hour all by myself and relax. During this half hour, sometime, I will try to get a better perspective of my life.
9、 Just for today I will be unafraid. Especially I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful, and to believe that as I give to the world, so the world will give to me.
If your life feels like it is lacking the power that you want and the motivation that you need, sometimes all you have to do is shift your point of view.
By training your thoughts to concentrate on the bright side of things, you are more likely to have the incentive to follow through on your goals. You are less likely to be held back by negative ideas that might limit your performance.
Your life can be enhanced, and your happiness enriched, when you choose to change your perspective. Don't leave your future to chance, or wait for things to get better mysteriously on their own. You must go in the direction of your hopes and aspirations. Begin to build your confidence, and work through problems rather than avoid them. Remember that power is not necessarily control over situations, but the ability to deal with whatever comes your way.
Always believe that good things are possible, and remember that mistakes can be lessons that lead to discoveries. Take your fear and transform it into trust; learn to rise above anxiety and doubt. Turn your "worry hours" into "productive hours". Take the energy that you have wasted and direct it toward every worthwhile effort that you can be involved in. You will see beautiful things happen when you allow yourself to experience the joys of life. You will find happiness when you addopt positive thinking into your daily routine and make it an important part of your world.
As we all know, love is the crux of a happy life.
Love helps us stay calm and serene even when things are tough.
It can carry us through the hard times.
Love looks for ways to be of service.
Love is enjoying the surprises of life,
and being totally delighted with what life gives you.
Love is the key to happiness
and it is a real blessing to others.
People who love make the world a kind and gentle place and other people feel safe around them.
They appreciate differences instead of making them a cause for prejudice or fighting.
Since I was very small, my parents sent me to learn painting. They thought I could understand art and mastered one skill. This experience brings me the sense of art. I have my own understanding of it.
On the one hand, art is an important way to express people's opinion. When we see the pictures, the difference between classical and ordinary paintings lies in the thoughts. The famous artists implant their ideas in the pictures, which are admitted by the public, so the value of arts can be seen. Some famous artists expressed their unique opinion and gives arts great meaning.
On the other hand, art is not only from works, but also from life. For example, my mother cooks the delicious food. Everybody speaks highly of her. So her food brings people great happiness, which makes the food an art for me. What's more, my friends is good at communicating. The way she talks can convince other easily, so I call the way she communicates as an art.
In all, for me, art is around. It brings people a way to see the world or makes our life wonderful.
The definition of happiness varies from person to person. Most people believe that earning a lot of money and living the comfortable life are the symbol of great happiness. It is true that making great achievement is our target, so we work so hard to realize our goals. But as we grow up, we realize the different definitions of happiness.
When I graduated from college, the job I chose was far away from home. I never thought about the distance between me and my parents. But in the first year of working, I met some difficult time in my career, just like other young people. At that moment, all I could do was to face the challenge by myself, because I didn’t want my parents to worry about me. Every time when I called home, my parents always comforted me by asking me to go home often. I realized the happiness for me was to have my parents stood by my side.
As an ordinary girl, my definition of happiness is to company my parents as often as possible. Nothing can compare the time to stay with my families.
